Laphroaig has celebrated the 200th anniversary with a series of 6 releases, the last to be released was this 32yo expression. The whisky has been fully matured in oloroso sherry casks for the full 32 years, it is a limited edition and only 6000 bottles have been made available. This expression has been bottled at the cask strength of 46.6%abv.
Nose.. The nose is so aromatic, you are instantly pulled in, a big bold hit of dried fruits rush over you pulling the most glorious vanilla and toffee sweetness along, subtle smoke rises delicatley over a fruity backbone. Baked pears drizzled with rich honey and cinnamon tantalise your nostrils, then ginger bread and dark chocolate just decide to say hello.
Palate.. It’s a rush of flavours.. Big, bold and intense. Candied oranges, dates, figs and toffee apples ride on the back of the smokey express train, wave after wave of vanilla, toffee and caramel do battle with a Spiced up army of cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg. There is a Devine oaky taste that complements the oily textures that coat every part of your tounge.
Finish.. Long, dry with a mixture of sweet and spicy notes.
Thoughts.. Every now and again you get the chance to try something special, you build yourself up to a giddiness of expectations, most of the time you fall with such a bang you hurt your head.. NOT this time, from the very moment you open the box and pour yourself that first dram to the very last extracted flavour you manage to detect your every expectation is met. There are so many levels to this whisky, it has a complexity and an unrivalled level of flavours from any Laphroaig I have ever had. This whisky has to be up there with the very very best malts in the world.
I had a chance to taste it, it’s out of this world. Interplanetary scotch. It has mark me. But at 1100$ CDN. I just can’t afford it.

There are far too many idiots in this world, just do what you do and ignore them.
