Jack Ryan”beggars bush ” 12yo

Irish whiskey is storming its way into many a malt whisky drinkers cupboard, so I thought I had better start seeing what all the fuss is about.

The jack Ryan family have owned the Beggars bush pub that is located in Dublin since 1913, the family released this expression in the centenary year..

This 12yo has been matured in ex bourbon barrels, it is NCF and bottled at 46%abv. Launched in 2013, this whisky was awarded ” Best Irish single malt whiskey” in 2014.

Nose.. Very fruity, lovely scents of pears, pineapple and melon,  some citrus notes from orange peel and some lemon. Not too much sweetness, a little caramel and hints of toffee, a little heather note with a apple blossom note.

Palate.. Again quite fruity, instant pineapple and pear drizzled with honey, candied orange and a little bitter note from lemon peel. Some spice in the form of ginger and a little cinnamon,  more caramel and a little nutty note in the background..

Finish.. A medium length with some spice and oaky notes..

Thoughts.. A lovely well balanced whiskey.. You can see why it was voted ” best Irish whiskey” very smooth and much too easy to drink.  Do not overlook what the Irish are doing..  Whiskey like this is here to stay..
