The balvenie distillery has become quite an iconic distillery of late with most whisky drinkers having tasted at least one expression, usually the doublewood but recently balvenie have released the tripple cask.. This 12yo is matured in 3 types of wood, firstly traditional re-fill casks plus first fill bourbon barrels and not forgetting those very impressive first fill Oloroso casks that balvenie just keep finding..
The Bottle under review is a one litre offering and is bottled at 40%abv.
Nose.. This is quite lovely, lots of sweetness and dark fruits although the sweetness does dominate, luxury dark fruits mingle so well with the scents of vanilla, toffee and caramel, rich honey compliments the fresh apple peel aroma while candied oranges give a balance to this wonderful nose.
Palate.. A lot more spice and dark fruit here, cinnamon, ginger and dates dominate while orange peels and thick syrupy notes shine. A delicious nutty note pops up with more sweetness similar to sugared almonds, a hint of popcorn and rich bitter chocolate give this a perfect send off..
Thoughts.. Since I ama fan of Balvenie you won’t be surprised to know I love this one too.. There is only one problem!! A little more abv would not go amiss, that said it is still a great malt and since it usually comes in 1ltr bottles I can’t complain too much.. Now looking at the price which seems to be around the £80 mark this does seem a little steep although I seem to ave got a bargain at £35 when first released ( yes I bought a few bottles) would I still buy it at the price now? Yes but only just, would I buy it at £50-60 ? yes and more regularly too !! A great dram if you get the chance to try..
Visited Balvenie last year and really enjoyed the whisky on offer but couldn’t see this bottle. Nice review though.

Thanks for your personal thoughts in this posting! I quite enjoyed reading it, but I am not much a fan for Balvenie, I find it flat and boring. have a nice weekend!

I’m not sure there is a better distillery than the balvenie, it has been my favourite ever since I first tried the Doublewood.

Another interesting and honest review. Which is good.
I’ve tried a few of the Balvenie expressions and this’ll be one to keep an eye out for a bargain on!
Thank you.
