Once again I have the privilege of bringing a first from Claxtons indipendent bottles in the form of this single cask from the Islay distillery of BUNNAHABHAIN. Distilled in October 2002 and bottled in 2016 this is from a single hogsheads cask and is of course NCF , natural colour and is bottled at 51.4% abv..
Nose.. Vanilla cheesecake is what comes to mind, some citrus notes and a touch of lemon.. once opened the vanilla is more prominent with lovely floral notes and more fruity aromas followed up by subtle oak and fresh mowed grass.
Palate.. Very clean and fresh. Starts of with that vanilla and a touch of butterscotch with lots of fruit.. Poached Pear, Apple peel and soft spices bring this dram together..
Finish.. Spiced fruit to the very end.
Thoughts.. This is a lovely clean and fresh whisky that will be the kind of thing you bring out to give to good friends and boast about, after all this is from another iconic distillery. These guys are finding some great casks to bottle and if they continue with this calibre of casks then the future should be very rosey for them..
Thanks to Adrian for the sample..
Another delicious review from you. Claxton’s are sounding very interesting.
Looking forward to reading more of your reviews of their bottlings in the future.
