Aberdeenshire’s The GlenDronach Distillery today (16 November) released three final, festive releases from its 2016 limited release programme.
Released together are the 8th batch of Grandeur, a 25 year old expression, a 14 year old expression of the Marsala Finish and the latest The GlenDronach Cask Strength bottling.
The Highland distillery, founded in 1826, crafts its whisky using traditional production methods and the finest sherry casks for maturation.
Master Distiller Billy Walker has specially selected the whisky for Grandeur Batch 8. A vast selection of the barrels, hogsheads, puncheons and butts mature in the dunnage warehouses at The GlenDronach Distillery and in Grandeur are some of the oldest and most unique.
With over a quarter of a century in the finest Oloroso sherry casks, each of the 1,505 bottles in this Grandeur limited release are full of luscious fruity aromas and dark chocolate flavours. Presented at 50.3% ABV in a luxury package and individually numbered by hand, each bottle is unique.
Strictly limited edition, The GlenDronach Marsala Wood Finish Aged 14 Years was first matured in European oak casks and thereafter spent its twilight days in Marsala hogsheads. Marsala is a fortified wine produced on the Italian island of Sicily.
This 14 year old expression offers tasting notes including stem ginger, fresh green apples and vanilla fudge.
Cask Strength Batch 6 offers whisky connoisseurs the opportunity to enjoy The GlenDronach as it is straight from the cask – non chill filtered, natural in colour and, in the case of this batch, at 56.1% ABV cask strength.
Matured in a combination of Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks, The GlenDronach Cask Strength has hints of dark chocolate, ripe figs and yellow plums. Batch 5 of Cask Strength, released last year at 55.3%, was a Gold award winner in the 2016 World Whisky Awards.
These three new expressions are an exquisite offering for connoisseurs of The GlenDronach and present as unique seasonal gifts for fans of sherry cask matured scotch whiskies.
