Glendronach cask strength, what can I say other than the ones I have had have all been pretty damn good so now we are on Batch 6 I thought it was about time I actually reviewed it for the blog instead of just drinking it.. As most of you might already know Glendronach is pretty well known for the single cask offerings they release that just burst with big sherry flavours and have of course acquired the “sherry bomb ” nickname..  These cask strength releases are of course  also carrying big flavours and aromas but not quite the same as the single cask offerings..

So to this batch 6 offering,  bottled at 56.1% abv this carries no added colour and is NCF..

Nose.. The dried fruits are instantly noticeable with dates and  raisins being the prominent note before plums, chocolate and aniseed aromas begin  to rise along with gentle tobacco notes and coffe grinds.. Orange marmalade and sugared almonds mingle so well with marzipan, toffee and vanilla notes.

Palate.. A big kick of spice and oak greets your mouth before the dark fruits muscle through to give you that typical Glendronach style.. Chocolate and orange take this in another direction alone with coffee, Liquorice and dark toffee notes.. Vanilla and caramel can be found lurking in the background with a hint of cherries and marzipan.

Finish.. Punchy with spices and oak that linger..

Thoughts.. Glendronach just continue to put out quality malts that just make me smile.. The company have obviously recently being bought out and I know a lot of people fear things might change and quality might suffer but if they can keep releasing malts of this standard then it’s all rosey..
