A few weeks ago I had contact with an author over in the states about a book, not about whisky but where the story revolved around whiskey or bourbon which was indirectly a main part..The story is set just after Prohibition in a small back road type town named “Twisted Tree” and is described by the author James Markert as a story about Fathers and sons, young romance, revenge and redemption, and the mystery of miracles… Set in 1934 just a short year after prohibition a family has been devastated by death, a brother left to cope, a father left with wounds and a community needing direction.. William the brother has questions to be answered and when a drifter who some believe to be the second coming of Christ is buried near to the old distillery large crowds are drawn and eventually miracles begin to happen. Is there a connection between the death of Williams younger brother and the drifter, will the secrets from the family’s past re surface ? Well to find out I’m afraid your just going to have to get a copy and read it for yourself..
This is a book that gives you a real insight into the era and what it might have been like to live in one of those small towns, the hardships and the feelings that most families must have felt.. The author paints a picture that really engulfs you into the story and makes you feel like you know the boy and his family..
” The sun had set. William had spent the rest of the day in his bedroom, heartsick and dizzy from the bottle of Old Forester”
With memories of a voice saying ” Left or the right, boss ”
Will William find the answers and will he know the love he lost when his brother was taken away ? Will the old distillery be re opened ?
So many questions to be answered and only one way to get the answers!
