Last year we had the emergence of another independent bottler by the name of Claxton’s, the family who have had a real passion for whisky for quite a few years now decided it was time to start bottling for themselves and the company was born.. As mentioned before the name of Claxton’s is the families own surname and now proudly sits on every bottle they produce. The company has just relocated its offices from York into their home town of Ripon and after the success from the first 9 releases they are about to release the first bottles of 2017..
My first review of this new batch is the Tullibardine 24yo, matured in a bourbon hogshead since March 1993 and then bottled in 2017 at 52% abv with no colour and is NCF..
Nose.. Fresh orchard scents with fruit crumble and vanilla custard.. A soft scent of fresh cut grass, toasted almonds and citrus peels along with a little digestive biscuit and gentle spices give this a well rounded aroma.
Palate.. A little more bite here than the nose leads you to think.. Wood spices dominate before the fruity, sweet flavours start to muscle in, vanilla, caramel and a little chocolate note are all there along with almonds, cinnamon and a soft malty background.
Finish.. Spicy and warming.
Thoughts.. A really easy drinking whisky that feels so much fresher than the age would suggest. This is certainly one for those long summer evenings shared with friends when you just want to enjoy what your drinking..
