Bruichladdich Islay Barley

What do we have here then ? Another expression from those guys at Bruichladdich distillery,  this time the Islay based distillery is offering us a 100% Islay Barley made whisky.  Made with barley harvested back in 2006  from Rockside Farm ( located on Islay ) and distilled in 2007, this expression really is all Islay but without the peat kick..

Bottled in the usual Bruichladdich style of no added colour and NCF this expression is unpeated and bottled at the strength of 50% abv..

Nose.. Lovely and fresh with freshly peeled apples, oranges, and a little fresh melon.. Vanilla brings in some sweetness along with caramel and a little toffee,  a touch of lemon drizzle cake and fresh heather honey enhances the sweet notes further..

Palate.. Those fruits and citrus notes kick off the palate along with some spices and vanilla creaminess..

Finish..  Spicy fruit with a touch of oak.

Thoughts.. Just how an every day drinking whisky should be !  This is quite a simple dram but that’s what makes it so good, the flavours and aromas are fresh and inviting, and once you start sipping it just slides down a little too easily..  A perfect summer evening dram ..
