Claxton’s, the family owned independent bottlers based in Ripon near York are about to launch another set of fine single cask bottlings.. After a very successful first year which resulted in releases like the Glen Elgin 20 and the superb Glenrothes 19 yo to name but two, the company is now ramping up production and with so much happening I was once again privileged to spend a few hours with Adrian sampling a few select cask samples and some possible future purchases before being handed a box of samples from the upcoming release..
Within the box are several samples all that make the mouth water including this first fill bourbon cask from Glen Moray.. Im already sold on the whisky coming from this Distillery so I am rather looking forward to trying this expression.
This Glen Moray is as mentioned from a first fill bourbon barrel, distilled 23-11-2007 with an ABV of 54.5%.. Cask reference 1832-5800 and as all Claxtons bottlings this is all natural colour and NCF..
Nose.. A fruity start with some nice spices and a little floral note popping up.. Apple peel, freshly cut hay, a little citrus peel with barley sugars.. A little cinnamon mixes well with honey and caramel.
Palate.. Those spices lead the way with some lovely fruity notes popping up as well as a hint of almonds and soft oak. The citrus notes compliment everything while the sweetness just adds depth.
Finish.. Long and spicy.
Thoughts.. it is easy to understand why those who know this Distillery will know how good the whisky is and this single cask from Claxtons is no exception.. Full of flavour this could very easily be an every day sipper if only it wasn’t a single cask..
Just one more bottle to add to the ever growing list..
Claxtons Glen Moray 10yo.
With thanks to Claxtons for sharing this sample..
