The Company was established by Fred Douglas Laing in 1948. 70 years later, Douglas Laing is regarded as one of the most innovative independent spirit businesses, owned and run by 2nd and 3rd generation family members. This latest release certainly reflects the Company’s desire for innovation and creativity.

The “Remarkable Regional Malts – With A Twist” bottling encompasses Single Malts from all of Scotland’s Whisky producing regions, representing the various brands in the range. Aged for 10 years, bottled at 48% alcohol strength and offered without colouring or chill-filtration, the resulting Whisky reflects the very best of Scotch Malt Whiskies.

Only 5,000 bottles have been produced and the specialist packaging has been created to raise a smile and to reflect the ethos of Douglas Laing and its Regional Malts. The labels are individually numbered while the gift tube panels rotates enabling Big Peat’s iconic bearded face to sit on top of Scallywag’s furry canine body, or to line up the Timorous Beastie’s Mouse body with the Epicurean’s top hatted head.

Fred Laing, Chairman, comments: “Our 70th Anniversary has been a big occasion for us and one we continue to enjoy celebrating. This latest Limited Edition reflects very much our focus and philosophy to release excellent, artisan Scotch Whiskies expressing some humour in the process, whilst not taking ourselves too seriously. After all, aligned to quality, Scotch Whisky should be fun!”.

TASTING NOTES

On the nose, a sweet, buttery biscuit quality with honeycomb initially developing to rock pools and a salty, seaweed tang. The palate shows mouth-coating milk chocolate alongside orange zest, vanilla’d oak then comes an earthiness with smoked bacon. The fruity finish is packed with stewed fruits and mocha balanced by candied lemon rind, black pepper and malted barley.

Established exactly 70 years ago, Douglas Laing & Co. is a leading creator and purveyor of the finest Scotch Whiskies, specialising in Single Cask Single Malts and Small Batch Malt Scotch Whiskies. The company was founded by Fred Douglas Laing in 1948 and is still owned and run by the Laing family – Fred Laing Jr and his daughter Cara Laing.

The company philosophy is to bottle the way the distiller intended – at a high strength and non-chill-filtered to preserve the robust and unique character of the Whisky. Douglas Laing’s industry reputation and many awards is testament to this ethos.

The Remarkable Regional Malts brand encompasses The Epicurean from the Lowlands, Timorous Beastie (Highlands), Scallywag (Speyside), The Gauldrons (Campbeltown), Rock Oyster (Islands), and Big Peat from Islay, collectively offering the consumer The Ultimate Distillation of Scotland’s Malt Whisky Regions.  The family firm also proudly bottles and markets its Exceptional Single Casks range, which includes the recently rebranded Provenance, as well as the firm’s flagship Old Particular and Xtra Old Particular, the “family jewels”.
