Grandeur in its finest form.. Glendronach of course.

I always look forward to pouring a dram of Glendronach and when it’s called Grandeur then my expectations are even higher, luckily they are rarely shattered when it comes down to Glendronach..

In Rachel we trust should actually be printed on the bottles these days as everything this Master blender is offering is quality, of course it helps when the whisky is a high quality to start with but you don’t get the honours Rachel is getting without the hard work.. After all the lady blender has just had the honour Of being inducted into the Whisky Hall of Fame !!

This Glendronach Grandeur 10 th edition is a marriage of both Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks and is made up with possibly some of the oldest whisky still available at the distillery… Boasting an age statement of 27 years this expression may actually be made up from whisky dating back to the 60’s !!

The Glendronach Distillery ( Glendronach is Gaelic for “ valley of the brambles ) is a firm favourite of mine and is possibly one of the finest distilleries producing a sherried whisky I have had the pleasure of trying !! Nestled within the highland region this distillery was founded back in 1826 and although the distillery has been mothballed as recently as 1996 and closed for refurbishment, today it is going strong with a capacity to produce 1.4 million litres of alcohol..

This review is for the Glendronach Grandeur 10th edition, boasting an abv of 50.1% and an outturn of 2293 bottles this expression is of natural colour and has an age statement of 27 years..

Nose..  Instantly this shows off rich dates, plums and the finest vanilla before the aromas of old antique shops and libraries surface.. Old leather, tobacco leaf and Manuka honey mingles with candied orange and dark chocolate.. Take a walk through the markets of the Middle East and finest exotic spice aromas just surround and take over the senses..

Palate.. An elegant richness coats the mouth and the explosion of dried fruits, Turkish delight, chocolate and coffee beans just set the senses on high alert, bonfire toffee, thick gooey molasses and vanilla gives this its sweetness..

Finish.. Unfortunately it did..

Thoughts.. This exudes elegance and sophistication, it seduces you into temptation and takes you into a world of relaxation and inner peace.. It hits the spot other whiskies try to reach and then it goes beyond..

Over the top I hear some of you shout.. well for me it’s the perfect dram to send me to into my happy place, Glendronach always seems to make me smile and forget my worries and all the rubbish that surrounds us all in this world.. When a whisky can do that then it’s worth it’s weight in gold..

Although a full bottle might be out of my reach, those who can afford this will certainly not be disappointed!

This sample of Glendronach Grandeur was supplied courtesy of Glendronach… It was certainly extremely appreciated and enjoyed !!
