Douglas Laing
Established In 1948, Douglas Laing are one of the biggest names in the independent bottler sector of the whisky industry..
Renowned for the quality of single casks, blends and innovative ideas the company have one of the most impressive ranges of whiskies available in today’s market..
With a portfolio second to none Douglas Laing boasts such labels like..
XOP – Xtra old Particular which is the label for the old, rare and obviously exceptional single casks of both single malt and grain whisky they come to bottle.
Old Particular – A single cask of high quality single malt and grain whisky available from the large array of stocks
Provenance – A selection of often younger expressions the provenance range is said to offer an insight into the area of where the spirit originated from.. Often single casks but sometimes small batch this range offers a great insight into a more affordable single cask experience..
Remarkable Malts – These are a series of blended ( vatted ) single malts from each of the whisky producing Regions of Scotland..
And not forgetting the blended side of the company with expressions like “The King of Scots” and “McGibbons Special Reserve”
All of the releases from Douglas Laing come as natural as is possible with NO colouring and Non chill filtered..
Timorous Beastie 18
This Timorous Beastie is another expression within the Remarkable Malts range and is a extension to The Timorous family.. The main bottling is of course the Timorous Beastie but limited bottlings of this expression have been released with the daddy of them all being the 40 year old as well as a 21 year old and this 18 year old..
The Timorous Beastie is made up of whiskies hailing from the Highland region of Scotland.. In the original bottling whiskies such as Dalmore, Glen Garioch and Glengoyne have been used so it shows the calibre of single malts that have been used to create the expressions..

Nose.. An initial burst of sweetness in the form of Vanilla, plum jam, Caramel and syrup soon gives way to a lovely chocolate and candied orange aroma.. A touch of blossom arrives with cinnamon, and a hint of ginger biscuits.
Palate.. Red apples and spices greet with dark fruits, Demerara sugar chocolate, orange marmalade and more of those spices.. A hint of almonds develops towards the end with a touch of liquorice.
Finish.. Lingering sweetness with a subtle drying feel.
Thoughts.. Not a lot to say about this.. It’s fantastic and so very enjoyable.. Another top notch whisky from Douglas Laing..
