As you know I really enjoy my malt these days and to my surprise I was sent a rather unexpected sample of Malt recently, there was sadly very little information within the package but a very generous sample was provided..
I have to consider myself very lucky as I know the team at Malt don’t give samples like this away very often and it seems I was personally hand picked, I am just thankful they had my address stored away..
As with everything, there is an excellent, professional, well mannered team over there and the master distiller at Malt always makes sure the product is up to scratch, hitting that high standard we all expect and so with his expertise behind this you know I was expecting something rather special !
Distillery.. Malt
Region.. Everywhere
Age.. Nas
Abv.. 40%
Cask.. Tired oak
Bottler.. Independent Bottlers..
Nose.. An unusual bitter note arrived instantly and that descended into dirty nappy, bitter lemon, sour grape, wet grass. a little cheesy note pushes through and unfortunately it was a little bit of a damp squib.
Palate.. Very spicy with plenty of bite but again the bitterness came through strongly with a hint of strong farmyard flavours thrown in.
Finish… Long and Spicy
Thoughts.. This is obviously put together rather well but it unfortunately showed a real lack of class, too many lingering off notes for me. The body was punchy and gave a slap round the face, luckily its bite was quick and didn’t leave a mark on my ass, but with very little depth and definitely no understanding of what was really going on it was all over far too quickly.
On the plus side and I always try to be positive ! This was it seems made with me in mind, and when the big boys like Malt are obviously taking an interest in me and my tiny blog it becomes a real accolade for me..
This sample could have maybe done with a little longer in the cask and possibly not so rushed in the production process.. Add a little more purpose and a little more effort on the lakes of whisky and this could have been rather epic..
This was a review from a sample very kindly sent by MALT.. I retain the right to give my honest opinion and look forward to working with them again in the future..
Keep up the good work guys.. It was a real pleasure to collaborate with you..
Someone has wise words 😂👍

Well now. Archie reckons that Malt aren’t playing very nicely. I read their’s, they need to rethink their attitude, approach and be a bit more down to earth.

Mate, I reckon your blogs are always honest. Maybe too honest at times. LOL. If there is such such a thing. Keeping it real all the way ocdwhisky.com ALL. THE. WAY.

Brilliant… but surely you should have consulted a thesaurus in order to use some longer words so as to baffle and bemuse the humble reader?
