A D Rattray
Founded by Andrew Dewar Rattray in 1868, the company initially began by trading as an importer of fine French wines, Italian spirits and olive oil, It was however not long before the company also established itself as a specialist in the art of blending whiskies.
It was not uncommon to see the companies horse drawn carts laden with cases of fine wines, oils and whiskies on the streets as they sold their wares in bulk to the merchants in Glasgow and the Clydeside area..
The company soon became an important representative to many of the whisky distilleries and today they still play a very important role within the distribution of whisky to the consumer..
2007 – 8yo Glen Moray – AD Rattray
Distillery.. Glen Moray
Region.. Speyside
Age.. 8 years
Distilled. 12-04-2007
Bottled.. 02-06-2015
Cask.. Sherry Butt #900029
Abv.. 64.8%
Nose.. Stewed fruits mingle with dates, raisins and dark chocolate, add a little cinnamon, marzipan and tobacco leaf and you got this.. Eventually a soft nutty aroma surfaces with espresso coffee, liquorice and cherry pie..
Palate.. big smack of dried fruits and spices greet you initially before allowing those cherry, chocolate and softer summer berries to shine.. As this settles down you start to get candied orange, aniseed, ginger biscuits and delicious earthy Manuka honey..
Finish.. Warming spices all the way..
Thoughts.. Intense, sexy and extremely enticing.. I just love most things coming out of the Glen Moray distillery at the moment, its a no nonsense distillery that just keeps delivering quality liquid.. Indie bottles, official bottlings, it does not matter as the whisky is always bloody good.. Enough said.
This sample was obtained through Secret Spirits..
