Mannochmore was founded in 1971 by DCL on the site of Glenlossie to help with the demand of blends. Blends like Haig and Dimple were increasingly demanding more liquid to keep up with the demand and whilst most of the whisky produced goes straight into these blends some does find its way into the bottle for us to enjoy as a single malt.
Carn Mor
The Càrn Mòr range is a selection of whiskies from single or limited casks owned by Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers, each cask with their own individual character and story will be released either as a single cask or limited edition. Three different series within the Carn Mor range exist to reflect different age, strength’s and batch sizes. Series 1, named “Strictly Limited”, will comprise of small batches bottled at 47.5% alc and Series 2, “Celebration of the Cask” will be single cask releases and bottled at cask strength.
Lastly, the jewel in the crown is Series 3, the Family Reserve. Extremely limited and rare single casks, these will be hand selected individually by either Brian or Jamie. Displayed in wooden boxes, each one shall come with the family’s connection to this cask and their personal memories of the cask displayed inside the box. Family Reserve is the only series in the Càrn Mòr range to carry the signature of a family member.

13 Year Old 2007 Mannochmore – Càrn Mòr

Bottled.. 2020
Age.. 13 years
Abv.. 47.5%
Cask.. PX sherry Hogsheads

Nose.. Stewed fruits lead into deliciously luxurious dates, figs, Turkish delight and rich chocolate notes before a candied orange scent starts to appear. As this opens a little more warm cinnamon buns and apple strudel become more prevalent before ginger biscuits dunked in black coffee and Bakewell tart brings you to your knees.
Palate.. interestingly this starts of with a bitterness from coffee beans / bitter chocolate before those dried fruits begin to take control. Figs and dates are prominent with a little toffee sweetness, peanut brittle and apple strudel with a hint of cinnamon give this a very homely feel.
Finish.. Treacle sponge and spices that linger forever..
Thoughts.. Leading into these winter months i either turn to peated whiskies ( shock horror ) or the delicious winter warming Sherry matured whiskies, so guess what. I bloody love this one !! Not only does this give me my sherry hit but also there is a subtle side to this whisky that just gives me a little fruity, floral hit that just sits perfectly with me..
